Big in China

The Big in China Band is fronted by New York Times best-selling author Alan Paul (One Way Out, Texas Flood) and features three longtime friends and hard-gigging musicians: guitarist David Gomberg (Dreadful Greats), bassist Rick Wagner (the Silos, the db’s, Luther Black) and drummer Jonathan Kampner (Little Buster). The quartet rides the intersection of blues and roots rock, playing the music of the Allman Brothers Band, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Billy Joe Shaver, and originals in the same vein. The band’s name is taken from Paul’s acclaimed book of the same name, which chronicled his adventures in Beijing, which included touring the nation with the band Woodie Alan, featuring lap steel wizard Woodie Wu. Their debut album Beijing Blues earned praise from ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa and blues harp master Charlie Musselwhite.
