Musings On Live Music, Dumplings, and a Fabulous Fall

Another Live Music Weekend with Autumn Jones on Friday and Blue Americana Saturday
Small Business Spotlight: Rosa-ly Pierogi

Last week marked the season’s last Food Truck Friday, a sweet ending, as they say, with Sip ‘n Swirl’s hand-churned ice cream and frozen novelties. But fear not – the music will play on! Fan favorite Autumn Jones returns on Friday, with her smooth and original R&B sounds, and Blues Americana, another Pickett’s regular, will rock the crowd on Saturday. And the $5 drafts will continue to pour.

In other news, have you ever thought about how wondrous it is that every culture has some version of a dumpling? Italy has ravioli, Armenia has manti, West Africa has fufu, Japan has gyoza, Russia has pelmeni, India has samosas, China has siu mai (and approximately a zillion other varieties), and Poland, well, Poland has pierogis. Dumpling lovers rejoice – we’ve got ‘em. Pickett’s has added pierogis to the fall menu not once, but twice – pan-fried, with onions, bacon and cabbage, on the appetizer menu, and boiled, alongside grilled kielbasa and more cabbage, as an entrée.

As soon as Labor Day hit, so did our hankering for pierogi, which leads us to this week’s Small Business Spotlight. Given our reverence for dumpling culture, and our love of Poland’s dimpled little beauties, we looked far and wide for an authentic pierogi that was handmade, and as fresh and delicious as pierogi were invented to be. We found these perfect little pockets at Rosa-ly Pierogi in Fairfield, NJ. Rosa-ly offers a dizzying array of house-made pierogi, from potato and farmer cheese and potato and cheddar cheese (currently on our menu) to buffalo chicken, pulled pork, and cheddar, bacon and jalapeno. Buy them fresh or frozen, or hot and ready to eat. Find them at www.rosalypierogi.com or set your GPS to 69 US Highway 46, Fairfield NJ. Vroom vroom.

October is here, and so are we! Hope to see you for what we’re praying will be yet another spectacular fall weekend.
